Hudson, FL (January 31, 2008) - On January 24, the Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point Volunteer organization announced winners of their "5 Star Volunteers of the Quarter Awards" and "1 Star Volunteer of the Quarter Awards". Employees, fellow volunteers and visitors nominate individuals for the awards. Volunteer winners of the quarterly awards included:
Don Andriuzzo - Don started volunteering at the hospital in 1994 and has 17,256 volunteer hours. Don is the Co-Chairman of the Mail Couriers. His ability to work with hospital staff, fellow volunteers and visitors needing assistance is commendable. His enthusiasm and desire to help others is contagious. He is also on the Awards Writing Committee. He is an outstanding asset to the hospital and the volunteer organization.
Lorraine Bertotti - Lorraine started volunteering in 2003 and has over 2,000 volunteer hours. Lorraine volunteers at Welcome Center A. She is always polite and very helpful to visitors. She extends herself in any way possible to assist our visitors. She recently took on the job of Historian of the Volunteer Organization and has done an outstanding job updating photo books. She is on the Newsletter Committee and contributes articles, funny stories and important health tips to the volunteer newsletter "Point of View." She truly is an asset to the hospital and the Volunteer Organization
Elsie Morris started volunteering in May of 2001 and has over 2,400 volunteer hours. She volunteers at Welcome Center "A" two days a week. Elsie is very conscientious, considerate and eager to be of help. Elsie is fun to work with and a great example of what a 5-Star Award Winner.
1 Star Award Winners....
Gus Jakobs - Gus started volunteering in 2002 and has over 1,500 volunteer hours. He is a Courier on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. His outgoing and fun personality puts patients, visitors and fellow volunteers at ease. His positive outlook is apparent even when dealing with difficult tasks. As one fellow volunteer said "he makes everyone laugh at least once." Gus is an asset to the hospital and the volunteer organization and truly deserving of this award.
Frank Kane - Frank started volunteering in 1992 and has 3,488 volunteer hours. Frank is always visible at the hospital as he is a courier and delivers items to all hospital departments. He helps to mentor new volunteers and is very dependable. Frank is a kind hearted and compassionate person who year after year grows dearer to the visitors, staff and fellow volunteers. Frank is truly deserving of this award.
Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards Presented
This award is from the office of the President of the United States. It was instituted to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of volunteers and volunteering around the country. The recipients of this award this quarter faithfully volunteer at the hospital every week, year in and year out. Only illnesses have kept them from coming.
Nellie Washkis was a volunteer for 27 years. She was one of our Charter Members. When Nellie retired in 2007 she had over 9,000 volunteer hours.
Ann Amato started volunteering 23 years ago. Over the years and through many challenges she has volunteered over 7,000 volunteer hours and she is a past recipient of the FRIST Award. She currently volunteers at Welcome Center "A". Her kind nature is noticed by all employees, fellow-volunteers and visitors. She is truly a joy and an asset to the hospital and the volunteer organization.
