Essential Piece Award and Service Award Recipients Honored

August 02, 2011

Hudson, FL – Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point has announced the 2011 second quarter recipients of its Employee Essential Piece Awards, and Service Award Recipients. The Essential Piece Award recognizes Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point employees for their demonstration of customer service. These are employees who are observed going the extra mile on a daily basis, not only to meet but to exceed the needs of their coworkers, patients, physicians, and community. The individuals selected were recognized by their peers as having demonstrated outstanding customer service.

Comments provided are received directly from patients and staff. This quarter’s “Essential Piece Award” winners receive a gift catalog to choose a gift of their choice.

Rebecca Rudicil, RN – SICU – “I was admitted into the hospital for an emergency procedure.  I had to have emergency surgery then went to the SICU unit where I stayed for five days.  My nurse was beyond nice.  She was very comforting to both me as a patient and my wife, who was very nervous.  My nurse answered any questions we had and knew exactly what she was doing.  It was a horrible situation but my nurse made things a lot easier.  Thank you for having her as a nurse.”

Jason Portano – Nuclear Medicine – “He provides exemplary service to our patients, physicians, staff and guests every day.  He is regularly found advocating the very best for our patients through his willingness to fill any gap that might diminish their experience.  There is no job or gesture too small.  This same willingness to do the right thing makes him a favorite of our physicians, staff, and guests.  His high level of technical expertise has made numerous contributions to our facility.  He maintains the department’s quality assurance efforts, the weekly reviews of the unit dose records regarding the dose calibrator, area surveys, and package receipts.  He is currently working on developing a fusion imaging protocol for use between Nuclear Medicine and Cat Scan.  He exemplifies the team concept.  As an example, he pulls the schedules of other departments and coordinates the availability of services across multiple areas while providing our patients with the highest level of care and respect.  Jason is a role model simply by the intuitive caring way he approaches his work each day.  He is a resource for students, central scheduling, new hires, and peers alike.  He is currently providing facility leadership as he mentors as an RSO (Radiation Safety Office).  Jason played a substantial role in our Nuclear Medicine’s recent survey results.  The State Bureau of Radiation Control sent an inspector (unannounced) in June to review our Radioactive Materials license compliance.  During the inspector’s exit interview with Administration, it was commented that this was the best inspection he had performed in his 16 years with the Bureau.  It can be said with confidence that the results of this inspection could not have been realized without the efforts of Jason.”

Service Awards were also presented, which recognizes employees for the years of service with the facility and with the company. Each award recipient receives an Omni box with a certificate of appreciation, an HCA/Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point pin, and a gift catalog that allows the employee to choose a gift of their choice.
