HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital strives to give patients the best experience possible by creating and carrying out patient-focused policies and procedures.

Patient information

We want you to be as comfortable as possible and pleased with your hospital experience. This information will help you prepare for your admission and hospital experience.

Our smoking policy

Since April 1, 2013, HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital has been proud to be tobacco-free. For our patients who use tobacco products, your healthcare team will discuss options available to you during your stay. For your safety, you may not leave your unit to smoke or use other tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes.

In keeping with our mission to improve the health of our communities, we are committed to providing a safe, clean and healthy environment for our patients, employees, visitors and customers. The use of all tobacco-related products are prohibited anywhere on the hospital campus to reduce the risk associated with passive smoking, and reduce the risk of fire hazard.

Florida’s Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities states:

  • A patient is responsible for following the treatment plan recommended by the healthcare provider.
  • A patient is responsible for following the healthcare facility’s rules and regulations affecting patient care.
  • The patient is responsible for his or her actions if he or she refuses treatment or does not follow the healthcare provider’s instructions.

If a patient leaves the nursing unit and/or the building, this will be considered an act “Against Medical Advice” (AMA). The patient’s primary physician will be notified of the patient’s absence and subsequent AMA. Upon a patient's return to the nursing unit, they will be informed that their absence resulted in an AMA. The patient will be given the AMA Form to sign. Their belongings will be packed up and then accompanied to the main entrance.

The role of your doctor

Your doctor arranges for your admission, decides what tests and procedures you receive, prescribes your medications and diet in the hospital. Your doctor also decides when you are ready to be discharged. It is important that you discuss your care with your doctor while you are hospitalized.

Procedures for outpatient testing

Make sure your doctor has called the hospital to order the procedure, or if the doctor gives the order to you, be sure to bring it with you when you report for testing.

Your privacy password

At admission, every patient is given a confidential password. Patients are told to share it with people they want to receive their confidential patient health information. Nurses and staff can provide information about the patient’s health ONLY to persons who know the password. This password is only for verbal communication regarding treatment or payment during this hospital stay. It will not be honored once the patient is discharged. Remember, our staff will not release health information without this password.

Guidance regarding valuables

Leave unnecessary valuables at home. Be prepared to pay your co-payments and deductibles, but do not bring large amounts of cash with you. We cannot be responsible for the loss or breakage of personal items brought into the hospital.

Advance directives

If you have an advance directive, bring a copy when you report to the Admitting Office. If you wish to complete an advance directive, the Admitting Office has the forms available to do so.

Television and telephones

There is no additional charge for televisions and local phone calls. You must call collect or charge long distance calls to your home number or credit card. We apologize, but we cannot add them to your hospital bill. Friends and relatives can call you by dialing (727) 819-2929 or by using your room number.

Insurance information

Bring your insurance card when you are admitted. We make a copy of it so we can bill your insurer directly for your covered benefits. Your co-payments are expected at the time of service. It is important that you understand what your insurance covers and where you can go for care.

Many insurance plans require pre-certification before admission. To avoid reduced benefits, call your insurance company to verify your coverage and make sure your authorizations are in order.
