Hudson, FL – Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point has announced the recipients of its fourth quarter Volunteer Five Star and One Star Awards. The recipients for the Five Star Award are Athena Cone, Audrey Gerds and Raymond Zurowski, and the One Star Award winner is Barbara Welch.

Athena Cone began volunteering in October 2003 and has 3,301 hours. Athena started volunteering in the Emergency Room Triage area. She was very kind and considerate of all those waiting to see the Triage Nurse. She also made sure everyone in the waiting room was comfortable, bringing visitors blankets, and talking with patients and visitors to keep them updated and help ease their concerns. Athena now is the Chairperson of the volunteers in our Recovery Room. She trains all the new volunteers in this area which means she has to come in at all different times to work with them. Athena is very knowledgeable, is quick to smile and is a really great person to work with.

Audrey Gerds started volunteering in October 2005 and has 1,437 hours. Audrey volunteers in our Arts & Crafts Department, where she helps to make items for patients’ trays for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, 4th of July and Thanksgiving. She also helps make the decorations and little favors for our holiday party, Audrey is an integral part of this department helping to go shopping for items and brainstorming ideas.

Raymond Zurowski started volunteering in November 2008 and has 1,029 hours. Ray always greets people with a smile and by their names, and he always takes the time to ask about those with whom he comes into contact. He always finds the time to do what is requested of him even if that means juggling two different departments. His knowledge and experience when helping with different projects in Human Resources and in Marketing are a tremendous help. Ray is very conscientious, does an exceptional job and has a “can-do” attitude.

Barbara Welch started volunteering in July 2008 and has 371 hours. Barbara volunteers in the Gift Shop, and she has a wonderful relationship with everyone. She offers help to all who enter the shop whether that is a listening ear or to choose a gift. Her warm smile and upbeat personality is infectious. She is always ready to cover for other volunteers when they cannot come in. On several occasions she stayed late to cover the next shift because that volunteer could not come in.
